In 1937, a schoolteacher on the island of Maui challenged a group of poverty-stricken sugar plantation kids to swim upstream against the current of their circumstance. The goal? To become Olympians. They were the Three-Year Swim Club. This is their story!

Our local shark research was just nominated for a 2023 World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) Award in the Product/Service Category.

Voting is now open to the public. This research was heavily supported by our local open water swimming community and the findings regarding cookiecutter shark attacks on channel swimmers pertain to swimmers around the world in waters inhabited by these sharks.

Official's Excellence Award

Congratulations to Big Island official, Dar Gerber!! She was recently honored by USA Swimming in receiving the Official's Excellence Award. This award is presented to only 6 officials a year throughout the United States.

Dar has been described as the Big Island's hero who is committed and dedicated to insuring the athletes receive the best possible conditions to achieve success.

You can see this announcement in the January issue of Swimming World Magazine.
